Thinking about a new career as an HVAC Installer? New technicians will be needed at dozens of shops across the country this coming year. Sign up today and learn all that it takes to become an Installer.

This course is designed to develop a person with little to no knowledge of the HVAC industry into an Installer that can effectively and safely perform the required tasks. This class is a total of 80 hours over the course of 2 weeks. There will be a total of 8 hours of testing, including written exams and lab work that the student will be graded on to successfully complete the course.

The students will also be required to complete 10 hours of online work through our online portal. Students will have access to our online portal with instructional videos and information for 12 months after the course is completed. ($1,200 value). In addition, we provide an assessment of each student to determine their qualifications against 39 different positions within the HVAC industry. ($300 value).

We have allowed for up to 10 hours of repetitive work done in the lab area depending on each student’s needs.

Students are responsible for bringing all of the necessary tools. Each class will have an associated tool list.

Online Learning Module
10 Hours

Day 1: Recovering Refrigerant
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
· Learn how to properly use a recovery machine to EPA standards
· Practice in lab recovering refrigerant properly

Day 1: Demolition
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
· Learn the proper procedure for dismantling furnaces and air conditioners in preparation for new installation
· Protecting the home and property to prevent damage during removal and installation

Day 1 & 2: Brazing
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
· Use acetylene safely
· Operate torches safely
· Hook up a nitrogen tank and purge while brazing
· Learn heat control in tight hard to reach areas
· Lab work will consist brazing joints on a bench and a live unit including brazing compressors, service valves, and other fittings.

Day 2 & 3: Line Voltage / Low voltage
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
• Understanding wiring diagrams and air conditioning electrical components
• Wire basic circuits parallel and series
• Use a Multimeter to troubleshoot Air conditioning electrical components
• Read and interpret basic/simple ladder and schematic wiring diagrams
• Understand the differences in how loads and switches are wired into heating and air conditioning equipment
• Wiring High Voltage to Indoor and Outdoor units
• Identification and testing of basic equipment components
• Basic use of various functions of a multimeter required to perform troubleshooting on various components.

Day 3 & 4: Sheet Metal and Transitions
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
· Introduction to different types of tools needed to work with sheet metal
· Learn to properly cut and bend sheet metal with the appropriate tools
· Measure for field fabricated transitions for installing equipment
· Fabricate multiple field measured, four-sided offset transitions on equipment
· Installation of return drops and different filter cabinets on equipment
· Gas piping installation

Day 5: Evacuating a System
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
· Learn how to properly use a vacuum pump
· Learn the function and how to use a micron gauge
· Practice in lab evacuating a system properly on multiple pieces of equipment

Day 6: Thermostats
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
· Understand all about different types of thermostats and how they work
· Understand the common language pertaining to thermostats
· Wiring of all different types of thermostats
· Programming and installation of Wi-Fi thermostats
· Lab work will be done on the most popular brands in our market

Day 6 & 7: Refrigerant and Charging
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
· Identify types of refrigerants
· How refrigerants work
· Air conditioning cycle
· Practice using a refrigerant manifold
· Understanding pressure temperature and superheat charts
· What is superheat and sub-cooling
· Practice superheat and subcooling charging on a live equipment

Day 8: System Start-Up
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
· Set the proper gas pressure
· Set the proper fan speed
· Set up the thermostat and test
· Proper startup of furnace
· Proper startup of air conditioner and heat pump
· Proper startup of air handler
· Measuring Static Pressure
· Filling out start-up sheets for all equipment

Day 9: Skills & Testing
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
• Lab skills: Understanding recovery and evacuating tools and their use
• Lab skills: Recovering, evacuating, and charging refrigerant
• Lab Skill: Refrigerant Joint connections and Brazing
• Identify areas of need for each student

Day 10: Needs-Based Repetition (Based on Individual Student Needs)
• The instructor will determine areas of need based on testing results

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Students wishing to cancel must do so by email or personal phone contact at least one week (168 hours) prior to the start time of a class to receive a refund. There will be no refunds for cancellations within one week of the start of the class or if the student fails to show up. Should there be a need for The National Trade Academy to cancel or reschedule an event due to an emergency (extreme weather conditions or otherwise) all attendees will be notified as soon as possible and will have an option for a refund or be rescheduled for an event at a later date.
